Philadelphia experienced a wave of shootings over Thanksgiving weekend. At least 32 people, including eight teenagers, were shot in the city between Thursday and Sunday, and three men were killed, authorities said. The city’s 2020 homicide total is approaching 450, and it’s up nearly 40 percent compared to last year, according to Philadelphia Police Department data. A 35-year-old man was rushed to Temple University Hospital with gunshot wounds to his chest and stomach at around 7:30 a.m. Sunday after shots rang out on the 1300 block of W. Seltzer Street in North Philadelphia. He died less than two hours later, police said. Two other men were killed separately within a span of about 15 minutes early Friday morning. Just after 12:15 a.m., officers were called to a house on the 5200 block of Catherine Street in West Philadelphia, where they found a 49-year-old man on the floor with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. He was pronounced dead at Penn Presbyterian Hospital about an hour later. Meanwhile, authorities said, at around 12:30 a.m., a 37-year-old man died after he was shot twice in the back of the head on the 300 block of E. Indiana Avenue in Kensington.
No arrests have been made in connection with any of the killings.
Police said an 18-year-old man was shot multiple times throughout his body, and a 16-year-old boy was shot five times in the back at around 11 p.m. on the 5900 block of Ogontz Avenue. A 17-year-old boy was shot once in the buttocks just before 8:45 p.m. Saturday on the 7000 block of Castor Avenue in the Castor Gardens section of Northeast Philadelphia. Authorities said a second victim, a 19-year-old man who had been shot in the foot, later showed up at Jefferson Frankford Hospital. Both teens are in stable condition, police said.
In West Philadelphia, three teenagers were struck by gunfire just before 12:30 p.m. Saturday on the 6000 block of Walton Avenue. Another 16-year-old boy was shot in the right hip, and an 18-year-old man was shot in the back. Both are in stable condition, police said. Two men were taken to Temple Hospital with serious injuries after a shooting just before noon Sunday on the 700 block of E. Tioga Street in Kensington.
Authorities said a 23-year-old man was shot four times — in his wrist, right thigh and right foot — and is in critical condition. The other victim, a 38-year-old man, is in “critical but stable condition,” police said, with two gunshot wounds to his buttocks.
In East Frankford, a 29-year-old man was shot in the back at around 2:15 a.m. Sunday on the 2300 block of Orthodox Street, police said. His injuries are not expected to be life-threatening. Just after 5 p.m. Saturday, a 22-year-old man was shot in the right arm on the 5800 block of Trinity Street in Kingsessing. His injuries are not life-threatening, police said. Police said a gunman opened fire on a 26-year-old man in Brewerytown, hitting him in the buttocks just before 4:45 p.m. Saturday near the corner of Myrtlewood and Master streets. The man is in stable condition at Temple Hospital. A 44-year-old man was taken to a Norristown hospital after being shot just before 1 p.m. Saturday at the corner of 55th and Christian streets in West Philadelphia, investigators said. He is in stable condition with a wound to his neck. Someone shot into a Black Jeep with a baby inside at around 10:45 a.m. Saturday on 59th Street near Market Street in West Philadelphia, injuring a man and a woman. The man, 24, was struck in the shoulder, and the woman, 23, received a gunshot wound to her hand. Both are in stable condition, police said.
Investigators said the 1-year-old baby was not injured, but he was taken to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia for observation. http://philly.metro.us/at-least-32-shot-in-philly-over-thanksgiving-weekend/ |
