In fact, much of the drop in Covid's official mortality rate has been because the virus spreads so incredibly fast that far more people have it than first thought possible - which means that its death rate is also far lower than first believed. SARS-CoV-2 is very different from the flu - which is generally regarded as not easily transmitted.

A second point is that we're having a light flu season compared to normal. I don't think anyone, under any circumstances, could possibly say we're having a light Chinese Woo-Hoo Flu season "compared to normal." There is no normal for it, so there's no way to call the epidemic "light." However, it may be lighter than it would have been without masks. That's impossible to know. The best we can do is to compare ourselves to Sweden - where masks haven't been mandated. Data out of Sweden originally indicated that masks don't help... but that's less clear now. Swedish cases are again spiking.

If only this tweet from Dr. David Samadi was a joke.

Sadly we are hearing and seeing this argument rolling around social media all too frequently these days.

Dr. David Samadi, MD ~ People: “We’re having a light flu season because people are wearing masks and social distancing.”

Me: “Then why are there so many new COVID-19 cases?”

People: “Because not everyone is wearing masks & social distancing.”

Me: *Nods and says a silent prayer for the country* ...

Yep. People (i.e., the "Karens" who want to control everyone else's lives) ... if the populace wearing masks the way you want them to is the reason why we are supposedly experiencing a light flu season, then the results should be the same for the Chinese Woo-Hoo Flu, too.
