Healthy debate is what makes discussions fun! I love it. Too bad the clo-clones don't understand that. You'll notice that they rarely discuss anything. They do and say as they're told. What's to discuss?

All I'll say about my excerpt from your last post is that the Civil War was *not* fought over slavery. Lincoln belonged to the anti-slavery Republicans but that was just the last straw for Southerners. For the first two years of his administration, he had no intention of freeing the slaves.

The war was about Northern oppression of the weaker, agrarian South. A plan for eradicating slavery would not have changed the North's behavior. The South was probably right to think that such a plan would have been massively destructive to its economy. (Of course, war took destruction to a whole 'nother level, but no one thought that was how it would turn out.)

You would be speaking a different language by now had what you suggest would have happened my friend.

Its easy to be an armchair QB without the burden and weight of the nation on your shoulders. The whole thing could have been avoided IF the Southern states would have worked with the non slave states to come up with a phaseo out plan for slavery.. I don't hear anyone talking about that methodology..

Water over the bridge now. However, if folks would prefer to be just another run of the mill country on the planet, that is their choice. I can provide a list of plenty to choose from...

I think in the aftermath of the war that the US is better off because of the forced re-union and learning to get along with the commonality that was supposed to accompany leaving Europe and coming to America..

Just letting you know that here are folks who share a distinctly different perspective although we despise the loss of life and carnage.. That does not mean kick the can down the road to the next person occupying the White HOuse like all the oens prior to Lincoln did..

My family is from Pennsylvania. My father is the only renegade who left and moved out west to Cincinnati..

But yes, their were family members who fought and died in the Civil War. This is why it is not a good idea for the reparations crowd to start that crap with me. How much was the life worth of someone who did not like slavery, foght against it to help free other men and women and sacrificed his life and well being of his family he left behind worth?? Seems conveniently forgotten on thier parts..

Inetresting perspective though. Just shows how different people view the same thing ... Glad we are not all alike.. It would be boring..... Thumbs Up Wink
