we have an amazon SHOW which I think is a type of echo but it comes with a screen so we can talk face to face with my daughter in Virginia and the grandkids. I wonder if that would work?
The Firestick is cheap enough. I could plug it into the t.v. in the man cave. Couldn;t hurt anything. I have a roku t.v. in our Living room my watch uses. I am not a fan of ROKU.

i LIKE SIMPLE.

Re: “SO, does this allow one to watch all the channels thatw e normally watch using the cable ?”
No, not the same ones. Not without paying for them. CBS News Live, for instance, is available for free, but not CBS. There are tons of free movies and shows, but if you want Netflix you'll need to have a Netflix account (which isn't free.) Hulu Live (which you pay for) will give you many broadcast TV shows such as Jimmy Kimmel and The View and more crap like that than you can shake a stick at. How much is Hulu? I pay $5.99/mo and get waaaaaay more than I could ever watch. For something on a par with cable TV (including all the broadcast networks), Hulu gets just as expensive. Hulu offers four levels of service: Basic ($5.99 per month), Premium ($11.99 per month for the same programs as Basic but ad-free), Basic + Live TV ($64.99 per month), and Premium + Live TV ($70.99 per month). That raises the question, if you're going to pay as much for Hulu as you pay for cable TV, why not just stay with cable TV? I wouldn't pay $70.99 per month for Hulu, but there are different shows you get if you're paying all that money and maybe some people prefer those shows.

The fire stick itself will set you back less than twenty bucks, micro. Buy one and play with it. There are tons of free things you can watch so you don't HAVE to spend a penny more. I don't think you'll be disappointed. I do recommend getting an Amazon echo too - and you've already said you're opposed to that.
