You remind me of that glorious eighteen months I spent in the middle of Alaska. . . once upon a time.

Snow on the ground late October . . . didn't see the ground again till May.

Winter time temperatures usually minus 20 to minus forty.

Good Times.

Zim.

Re: “I woke up to find snow on the ground here.”
I hate to one-up you, but it's been a while since we've had anything BUT snow on the ground here. The funny thing is that there's not that much of it - six inches, maybe less. A lot of the older snow has turned to ice, and it just doesn't melt. Every time we see a bit of dark starting to show through, another 2 or 3 inches comes along and covers it up.

That's how it is up here in January and February. In a good year, the snow will melt off in late March. In a bad one, mid-May. Last year, we had one of our heavier snowfalls on something like May 23rd. Makes it kind of hard to get a garden going.

Weather.com says that our high Friday will be 11°. That's a pretty low high. My poor wife has to head into town at 10 a.m. when it'll be 4° and windy. I'll be with her in spirit! Aw, who am I kidding? I'll probably sleep in.
