I have doubts as to the efficiency of the existing vaccines.”What makes SARS-CoV-2 the deadly killer it is is its high transmissibility (R0), and its R0 is due to the spike protein it carries. That protein gives the coronavirus its name and allows it to plug into the body's ACE2 receptors. If that spike protein mutates in a different strain, the virus won't be able to infect humans anymore and will cease to be a threat.

The mRNA vaccines distributed by Pfizer and Moderna teach the body to manufacture spike protein strands triggering an immuno response targeting those spike protein strands and only those strands. That is why the vaccines *are* highly effective against SARS-CoV-2 and all of its alternate strains. Every one of them carries the spike protein.

My concern has never been about the effectiveness of the vaccines. It is about their long-term side effects. Targeting the mechanism that allows SARS-CoV-2 to interact with ACE2 receptors has, imo, potentially fatal consequences when the immune system then targets the patient instead of the virus.

Different genomes

The team has found that the genome sequence of the coronavirus sampled from the first confirmed case in Brazil is different from the one acquired from the second confirmed case in the country. Further, the two complete genome sequences were different from the patients in China.
