This and the temperance movement. Many in these movements had no interest in making convincing arguments that would sway people to their side, but rather were intolerant would-be authoritarians who wished to literally force (through threats and even physical violence) their wishes down everyone else's throats. These were the very "omnipotent moral busybodies" of which C. S. Lewis spoke ... the ones who torment others ... without end ... for their own good ... safe in the delusional fantasy that they are doing so with the approval of their own conscience. Sound like anyone else we know in today's world? Ah, yes ... libtards!

And one other thing ... in your photo, who is standing in front of that sign condemning the use of tobacco? A woman. This is 1915, so I am assuming this was not a progenitor of Bruce Jenner who simply identified as a woman and liked to wear dresses. Women ... and some overly feminized men ... made up the vast majority of the most intolerant, bellicose "moral busybodies" of the anti-alcohol/anti-tobacco movements ... and it is the same for the leadership of the libtard Democrats, today ... women who are bitterly resentful at being born female in a world dominated by masculinity and their harem of compliant men whom they have emasculated. They simply cannot allow everyone the freedom to make their own choices because they errantly believe themselves to be oh-so-superior to everyone else.

1915? I didn't know they'd been up to no good for that long.
