Joey has just been accepted for a Ph.D. in Computer Science at the University of Wisconsin, Madison!
---------

Wow! Congratulations, DE. I am still confused about getting a Ph.D without getting a Master's Degree first.
But we both did google it and it seems that his future employer would be the one/s to decide the necessity of that.

FREE, welp, if it's free, it's for me. FOUR YEARS OF GETTING A Ph.D FOR FREE is absolutely amazing!
---------

QUESTION: Carnegie Mellon - "the only school that would likely keep Joey from accepting the offer from University of Wisconsin - OKAY, what if he gets accepted to Carnegie Mellon but they do NOT offer him the Teaching Assistant position for $22,000 ? I don't think I could turn down the moohla.
-----

I went to school down the street from C.M. for two years. BEST FRAT PARTIES IN THE STATE!
---------

Drive from Manchester to Carnegie Mellon University

10h 43m

Approximate fuel cost: $55 - $90 USD

603.5 miles

------------

Big difference in distance: http://www.rome2rio.com/map/New-Hampshire/University-of-Wisconsin-Madison

approx 20 hour drive, almost double.

---------

You'll have time to decide as he's only a Junior. Make sure you go see them first!

Betcha didn't think of that, didya? Smile))

If you think education is expensive, try ignorance.

No, HUGE news - in my family!

Joey has just been accepted for a Ph.D. in Computer Science at the University of Wisconsin, Madison! His education will be tuition-free for the next four years. Further... and as part of the offer... he will work as a T.A. for one of the professors at a salary of $22,000 per year.

He hasn't heard back from any of the other six colleges he applied to, but University of Wisconsin is one of the two he was calling his "#1 choice," the other being Carnegie Mellon, the only school that would likely keep Joey from accepting this offer.

We're incredibly happy tonight.
