Texas allows wholesalers to buy blocks of energy and resell it to consumers, so there are MANY companies you can buy your power from. However, we have always contracted with TXO (for decades, now), which is the granddaddy company here that owns the main electricity producing and delivery company in the state, Oncor. TXO just sent us an e-mail stating that while some consumers have been slammed on recent bills, TXO customers (whether fixed or variable rate plans) will not be hit with any upcharges. In fact, we received our latest bill, which goes through Thursday, Feb. 18th, and it is a normal bill using the normal contracted rates. I know we used more electricity and gas this past week simply because the furnace had to kick on more often to keep the house between 66 and 68 degrees, but as long as the rate doesn't jump 10-fold or more, I won't have any complaints.
We haven't received our latest natural gas bill, yet, but I'm sure it will be elevated simply due to increased usage.
