The problems with the S African variant are two:
Vaccines less effective against it. Not sure yet by how much, but not great news.
Monoclonal antibodies not effective against it. This is the one single treatment with results, immediate results, the one that saved the orangutan’s life in just hours.
Clinical booster trials begin in mid March, with the volunteers of the original clinical Modena trials. Two doses to be tried, 25 and 50mg, vs.the 100mg doses of the current vaccine.
