.22LR is good for you to start with. You can learn all of the safety procedures and mechanics with a .22LR that you can with a larger bore pistol. Hopefully, it is a semi-automatic .22LR - because the handling of a revolver is very different.

I would recommend that you eventually graduate to at least a .380ACP - preferably a 9mm. A .22LR will definitely maim and kill ... you can get off numerous, accurate shots in a very short period of time, BUT ... it doesn't have a lot of punch unless you hit the heart or the head.

Wow, beldin - this is very helpful. Thank you so much for taking the time to "spell" it out for me.

I have been practicing with a .22. My "range officer" told me I could still cause injury with the .22.

Pretty overwhelming to me, but I am determined.
