Realist - Everybody in America is soft, and hates conflict. The cure for this, both in politics and social life, is the same -- hardihood. Give them raw truth.

I'm watching 'The Love Boat,' Season 2, 1978. The Captain's ex- girlfriend's little girl... about age 10... is having to travel on the ship by herself. She sees her cabin and is afraid it has monsters, so she begs the Captain to let her stay with him in his cabin. He reluctantly agrees.

Right off, I'm seeing TWO things that could never happen today.

First, could you imagine a 10 year old being allowed to take a cruise by herself? Second, could you imagine a Captain (or any other man) letting a little girl share his room?

In 1978, neither of these raised any eyebrows. Things sure have changed. I liked it better when society still had some innocence... and decency, not perversion, was presumed.
