Fearing 'masculinity crisis' could harm its global rise, China looks to schools
Boys in China are traditionally expected to be strong leaders, get good grades and excel at sports. But the gender balance in the country is changing, with more girls than boys entering university and regularly outperforming boys in standardized testing.
In response to what the government has called a national security issue, China’s Ministry of Education has published plans to “cultivate masculinity” in male students, inflaming a debate over modern gender roles.
