No, but they had a lot of fun with that show. When first asked to take the part of Colonel Wilhelm Klink, Werner Klemperer, a Jew whose family fled Germany in the 1930s, said "No." He finally agreed to do the role of the camp commandant as long as the Germans in Hogan's Heroes were never, ever allowed to win. I'd say they kept that promise. Totally unrealistic as it is, it's a great show.

...somehow I don't think being in a german pow camp in WWII was as much fun as they act like it is.
