Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, addressed on Thursday associate attorney general nominee Vanita Gupta's stake in her family business that reportedly sold compounds in Mexico that drug cartels used for heroin generation.
Gupta was marked up in the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday, with Republican senators aiming the president's nominee.
Gupta’s dad, Raj Gupta, is the chairman of Avantor, an American business in which Vanita owns between $11 million and $55 million worth of stock, according to her financial revelations.

Avantor supposedly sold acetic anhydride, which Mexican cartels practiced to make high-grade heroin and methamphetamine – something Cornyn was keen to point out on Thursday.
Cornyn brought a poster of a "17-liter jug of acetic anhydride" with him to the markup, stressing that the chemical is "manufactured by Aventor through its wholly-owned subsidiary J.T. Baker in Mexico."
