There's no doubt the job of an American cop is hard. But you do seem to have a problem in the behaviour of a lot of police people.

At the same time, I don't doubt the difficulties of producing change.

The heart of the issue is that the police have to deal with a society in which the citizenry is on average heavily armed. Not just crooks, but also crooks. And nuts. And angry people. All the excuses and the bad operating procedures flow from there because they are the folks that have to deal with the situations they encounter. And many of those situations will be high risk.

Changing gun law is virtually impossible in the US. So I am not sure how you improve the situation without making their job even harder.

But yes, train them not to beat up innocent black men for no reason!!!

One of the main problems has been that when a cop says they were in fear, they have used extreme force & are allowed.

Having cameras is starting to help, what some see as being at risk is BS. Often the cop has escalated the situation instead of handling it professionally.
It's been rare to have a jury find an officer guilty, because of the blanket they use to cover their behavior.

Their unions are powerful.

Let's see how the Chauvin trial ends, this could help change the behavior of some cops.

Yet, even with this going on, this happened.
Watch the video, it is terrifying & sooo unnecessary.

Officer fired amid call from Va. governor for investigation into pepper-spraying of Black Army officer

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam said Sunday he is directing Virginia State Police to investigate a traffic stop during which two police officers held an Army second lieutenant at gunpoint months ago in the southeast part of the state. Town officials said later that night that one officer was fired.

Northam (D) said the incident — in which body-camera footage shows police pepper-spraying, striking and handcuffing Caron Nazario — “is disturbing and angered me.” Nazario, 27, who is Black and Latino, filed a lawsuit this month against Windsor officers Joe Gutierrez and Daniel Crocker that alleges excessive force due to racial profiling.

A Black Army officer held at gunpoint during traffic stop was afraid to get out of his car. ‘You should be,’ police said.
