This is a subject I have done some thinking about.
I'll start with a black, female, former co-worker I used to work with. 'Teeza' I'll call her. She told me her grand parents were both school teachers. I don't know what her Mama did, but her job was to take covers out of a machine, scrape them off, clean them up, then put them back on the machine. How is it Teeza's familial line went from honored white collared professionals to glorified janitor in two generations?
I'm sure we've all heard about the 'Tuskegee Airmen' - Black college boys turned fighter jocks in WWII. Historical fact? Or black fiction?
Then there are those black lady mathematicians who helped America put men on the moon. Again, Historical fact? Or black fiction?
Back in the late 1960's and early 1970's I remember there were some black public school teachers in the Norfolk school system. One of them could have been Teeza's grandmother.
What did Teeza's grandmother, the Tuskegee airmen, and those black lady mathematicians all have in common? They all got a college education - back when this really was a 'Racist White America'. Being that it was possible for black peoples to get a college education back in the heart of the Jim Crow era . . . makes me wonder just how 'racist' America really was.

Tim Scott’s (R-SC) speech on Wednesday and stated that while he doesn’t think the American people are racist, “after 400 years, African Americans have been left in a position where they are so far behind the eight ball in terms of education and health, in terms of opportunity.”
Host Craig Melvin asked, “He said among other things, America isn’t racist. Is it?”
Biden responded, “No, I don’t think the American people are racist. But I think after 400 years, African Americans have been left in a position where they are so far behind the eight ball in terms of education and health, in terms of opportunity.”
He also stated, “I think the overhang from all of the Jim Crow and before that slavery has had a cost and we have to deal with it.”
