The cobwebs in my mind fell away even as a sandpiper outside began its morning trill: "Ka-ka-dee!" it called, "Ka-ka-dee!" and I knew what I must do, for the piper cries out boldly only when the grass is full, concealing it from its nemesis, the crafty coyote, bringing a bravery that otherwise might not be.
