But the US system was horribly exposed.

You need a heart in your constitution that provides the trust. The written document is not enough. You need a body that can confine a president to his duties and can remove him if needs be. Or you will be lost, one of these days.

The senate showed it isn't the right body for the job. So it has to be something different. That's what a constitutional monarch is for. But the US can solve it in different ways eg a group made up of Ex-Presidents, Ex-Supreme Court Justices, Ex-Chairs of the Federal Reserve, and Ex-Chiefs of Staff at the Military. Let them do impeachment and removal.

I've said it for decades. I hope I won't have to say I told you so because a new Trump sees the opportunity and takes it. The US constitution needs a few changes.
