Overall, Saturday's garage sales were sub-par, but I did get two great deals. First, there was an Ace 10" compound miter saw in a dirty box but still shrink wrapped so who cares? It's likely never been used. The sellers asked $70. I offered $50. They countered with $60 and that was the price.

I've already moved it to the barn, so I can't show you a real photo. I've displayed a comparable product, it might even be the same model. My wife said she found it online and it was $170.

Curiously, it was just a week ago that I found a 16" Rikon Scroll saw at a garage sale. It was priced $100 and I offered $60. Sold! It HAS been used, but I'm confident that it's in good shape. The woman was moving to Louisiana, selling almost everything she owned. That saw was $200 new, on-line.
The day's other great deal was a pair of "Interceptor" high top tennis shoes, obviously never worn. They were still tied together the way you find them in stores. I asked for a price, figuring I'd buy them if they were $5 or less. The lady said 50¢! This was a multi-family yard sale, and the woman who gave me that bargain was sitting on the opposite side of the driveway from where the shoes were. No one else was there leading me to suspect that that whoever owned those shoes put her in charge, never imagining that she'd practically give his things away. Oh well!

The photo to the left came from Wal-mart, which sells the shoe. Wal-mart's price is $34.84. The only problem with them is that they're size 10½ and I wear a 10. That's a trivial issue. I might even be happy about it if it turns out that the shoes are narrow, which shoes sometimes are.

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months

Before I forget, today is Prime Day. It extends well beyond Amazon. You'll find Prime deals at Kohl's and Target, for instance.

Online, I read that Americans will spend $600 today. I don't believe it, but it may be a statistical truism. For instance, salesmen may defer their sales until today to support the statistic. Or, businesses may hold back on their PC purchases until today in order to get better deals. One big business can make up for a tremendous number of individuals who buy nothing. But, is the average American individual going to spend $600 today? NO WAY.
