But, then, the manufacturers of flu shots guess the prior year which strains of flu their shots should target. They often get it wrong.

"recent studies show that flu vaccination reduces the risk of flu illness by between 40% and 60% among the overall .." https://www.cdc.gov/flu/vaccines-work/vaccineeffect.htm .. So, as you can see, the Covid shots are pretty impressive by comparison.

The measles vaccine is far better than the flu vaccine. An initial shot is 93% effective at preventing the disease, and a second dose is even better.

It's worth reminding you guys that the purpose of a vaccine is NOT to protect the person who gets inoculated, but to protect the population by lowering the R0 of the disease to less than 1.0. If a high enough chunk of people is protected, the disease dies out and eventually NOBODY catches it. Vaccines aren't so much about protecting individuals as they are about exterminating a disease.

Covid-19 will never be exterminated. A tremendous number of wild animals, including mice, catch and transmit it and they aren't being vaccinated.

what is the rate of people who are ted against vaccinated against say measles or polio or mumps from getting those diseases even though they are vaccinated.

We have not heard much about vaccine efficacy on other things or even the normal annual flu bugs so that might be an interesting thing to learn.

I have to leave now and get going for the day but would like to find out how efficient other vaccines are at preventing people coming down with the disease or sickness they are supposed to be vaccinated against...

Am off to meetings. See you all after I get back to home later this evening!
