Hmmmm. . .
Sounds like the compressor is going bad. How old is it?
I think it was last summer (or maybe the year before)
my AC unit kept tripping the breaker . . . Then it quit
altogether.

I wound up buying a whole new unit. Of course, the old
one was at least twenty years old.

Its the roof mount 13,000 btu. I went up at midnight lastnight, when it cooled off and couldn't see anything wrong. I wiggles the wiring connection and shook the compressor around a lil and I got it to stop throwing the breaker and making a crazy noise. Not sure what I did but so far so good, and I have the lil 5000 unit in the living room window, just to take the edge off the heat, and turn on the main one when it gets too warm.......
