JEA consultant says no hope for change on over-budget Vogtle plant

http://www.bizjournals.com/jacksonville/news/2021/06/22/the-hold-up-jea-on-plant-vogtle-timeline.html

Plant Vogtle in Georgia was budgeted at 14 billion. It has reached 28 billion and isn't finished. I don't think that Nuclear Energy is cheap by any means, but it might be cheaper than solar or wind since neither has proven to be reliable nor cheap and in some cases even feasible.

And this is why you are King Sire.

Good words, all of them.

I am, once again, going to type in my 'solution' to the
problem. Then I'll add a few words why it might be good
for this country.

Solution.

1.) Open Yucca Mountain.

2.) Move all the spent fuel rods from all our existing power plants into Yucca Mountain.

3.) Build a fuel rod re-processing plant inside Yucca Mountain.

4.) Make low interest loans to very large power companies that can and will pay the money back to build new nuclear power plants.

Reasons.

The obvious - nuclear is non-carbon emitting and doing these things would allow U.S. to retire the coal fired power plants dramatically reducing out carbon emissions.

At the moment all our nuclear power plants have their own little 'nuclear waste dumps' - and NONE of them were ever designed for long term storage.

There is still fissionable material inside those spent rods. By reprocessing them we can reduce the need for mining more uranium. We can also reduce the amount of plutonium on this planet by fissioning it inside the reactors.

Shoveling money into the pockets of obozo's campaign contributors was NOT a solution. Most people know better than to loan money to turds who can't, or won't pay it back. A LARGE power company already knowing how to build and run nuclear power plants ought to be able to build new ones, run them, and make lots of money to pay for them.

Lastly. With lots of relatively cheap energy we can steal our manufacturing jobs back from China - reducing their need to burn fossil fuels. Also, with lots and lots of relatively cheap nuclear power one part of the 'electric car' equation becomes more feasible.

Zim.
