Vast swarms of flying ants are over southeast England, as they are every summer. They are so numerous they appear on the radar. Trillions of them, I'd guess. Not sure where they live for the rest of their cycle. They land on heathland near where I am and wherever they are the ground is heaving with them. You can't avoid stepping on hundreds of them with every step and they go on for miles. Luckily, they don't bite.
