Re: “how HARD is the water there? Ya would do well to install a water softener”
While I haven't tested the new well, water in New Hampshire tends toward hard. And I have thought about getting a water softener.

The problem is, my impression is that water conditioning is a pain in the neck. I've read many articles talking about houses with water softeners that are in disuse, sitting idle for the past umpteen decades because they're just too much of a hassle to maintain. I know myself pretty well, and that would probably be the case with me.

Now, if I found some article saying "Here's the quick and easy way to permanently solve your Hard Water problem," I might reconsider. But I haven't found that yet.

Do you soften your water?

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months

it's none of my business, but I am wondering how HARD is the water there? Ya would do well to install a water softener in front of the water water so the water going into it is not full of things that build up and destroy the water heater like Calcium and lime. You can buy one and should not need much of one. But it will certainly prolong the life of the water heater greatly and yer pipes won't get full of buildup either..

Just a thought...
