Enough people are vaccinated (53% of the entire population have had two jabs) or are not especially susceptible to a mortal outcome (around 33% are under 25). Freedom Day is here.

People in England are mostly taking off their masks and taking the plunge to see how well the vaccines work in the middle of a large number of cases of the delta variant.

So we're going to have a huge number of new cases almost immediately, and we're going to be hoping those don't result in an unacceptable number of deaths. But there are going to be many more.

Normal life now or lockdown life forever? Which will it be after the experiment? We'll find out in the next few months.

It's a gamble that everyone is going to take eventually. Are we at or near herd immunity, by hook or by jab? Hopefully we are. And the virus won't have its own way for much longer. The mathematics should produce the outcome we hope for.

But anti-vaxxers are probably screwed. They are too late to protect themselves. And the people who are vaccinated are not going to be held back by people who are determined not to be. At least they had the choice to get their jabs. And if they get covid quickly, they will do so in the summer when the mortality rate is lower. The sooner we do the experiment, the better at this point.
