After reading a bit about the 2016 Olympics in Rio, I have to grudgingly agree with you. Of course, in 2016 she wasn't carrying the mantle of G.O.A.T. And maybe the 2016 handlers did a better job of keeping the press and what they were saying away from the athletes.

If it's not a greater than usual amount of outside pressure that caused her to lose confidence, what do YOU think the explanation is?

Maybe she just wants to keep the G.O.A.T. title and figures she won't if she's actually beaten by someone at this Olympics.

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months

"She hasn't been exposed to it before, at least not to the degree she suddenly is now."

Not buyin' that, De ... this is not her first rodeo. She won four golds and one bronze in the 2016 Olympics in Rio. She's had plenty of time to get acclimated to the fame and the pressure.
