#8 is actually the TOPSET for Egyptian Walking Onions - I sent you same a few years ago. You can eat the topsets or pcikle them - I use the green shoots like green onions for stir fry or salads. You can also dig up the base buld and use it like a shallot or onion if need be yet obviously the plant is then gone. I actually need to go gather the tops today for planting again in the fall as I am moving my patch to another location.

#9 Garlic requires planting in the fall and harvesting in the summer, curing for storage and replanting each year so calling it a “permacultural” perennials is a stretch!!

Personally I have not bought garlic in over a decade and my French Grey Griselle shallots are absolutely insanely delicious - they are small yet what they lack in size the more than make up for in flavor!!
