Do not forget the possibility of wireless via USB adapter.
(If you want or need it badly enough.)

Re: “Hey, did ya get any of the other parts yet like yer wireless network adapter??”
It arrived today. Unfortunately, the installation isn't going well.

Remember that this eMachines box is unusually small? In order to get the new card into the computer, I had to snip off both the top and the bottom of the card's backplane. That's to say, the backplane was taller than than the computer. Unfortunately, I didn't have the option of just removing the backplane since the wireless card has two antennas that are held in place by the backplane.

Currently, I've got the card installed. I went into the BIOS and disabled the built-in (on-board) LAN. Upon booting, the computer is throwing errors - one beep followed by three more in quick succession. Sooo, now I'll undo my changes and see if the beeping stops. After that, I'll see who makes my BIOS and look up what the beep codes mean. My guess is that I'm going to be throwing in the towel on getting wireless to work with this machine. After all, WIRED internet is working. I can get the machine configured the way I want using that. When the PC goes to my barn, it won't be on the internet at all. The biggest problem I'm likely to run into at that point will be that I won't be able to print wirelessly. That's solvable.
