Didn't you say that it still had memory errors even with
the original memory back in it?

If not . . . I'm thinking about a file cabinet drawer I
once had access too that was filled with a LOT of old
RAM . . and the headaches I had trying to upgrade the
RAM in various old machines.

Some of those old machines were very picky about what
sort of RAM went into them. Parity. Error correcting.
And even the speed of the RAM could cause errors.

I'm just curious . . . but do the old RAM sticks and
the new RAM have the same specs and speed ratings?

Zim.

Re: “If you want or need it badly enough.”
I don't.

This computer has a number of problems - a shortage of expansion slots, memory errors that apparently can't be corrected with new memory, physical dimensions that are problematic for most "standard" cards, a broken front cover for concealing the DVD drive. But the machine IS able to get on the internet via a physical wire, so I should be able to download and install software. And Windows 7 is a quality OS. An absence of wireless is, therefore, only an annoyance, not that big of a deal.

Given all of its problems, I'll likely use the computer for something simple such as being a music server or being a READ ONLY books database (with the master copy being on a computer that doesn't have memory problems.) I'll put it to use, but not for anything where reliability matters.

I'll probably also keep my eyes out for another cheap desktop. If I find one that's better than this, I'll put Windows 7 on it and give this one to some homeless guy who wants to play Castle Wolfenstein or DOOM. I may even set it up with FFT4 as its home page - so that clo can ruin yet another poor guy's life.
