Re: “Didn't you say that it still had memory errors even with

Yep. I expect it was the machine's original memory. I mean, who would replace 3 gigs with another 3 gigs when the machine is capable of holding 8???Re: “I'm just curious . . . but do the old RAM sticks and the new RAM have the same specs and speed ratings?”I would think so. But I've heard stories for at least 30 years of people who bought big batches of memory and had to return it all because it wouldn't work with a particular computer they were building out. I know that memory can be very finicky. Sometimes one manufacturer is just better than another.

In this case, though, even the original 3 gigs of memory is failing the POST process. That makes me think that this problem is with the motherboard or CPU, not the memory. I'm not going to put any more money into this computer. If I hit garage sales tomorrow, odds are 50/50 that I'll find an inexpensive computer in better shape.

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months

Didn't you say that it still had memory errors even with
the original memory back in it?

If not . . . I'm thinking about a file cabinet drawer I
once had access too that was filled with a LOT of old
RAM . . and the headaches I had trying to upgrade the
RAM in various old machines.

Some of those old machines were very picky about what
sort of RAM went into them. Parity. Error correcting.
And even the speed of the RAM could cause errors.

I'm just curious . . . but do the old RAM sticks and
the new RAM have the same specs and speed ratings?
