Do you put fertilizer in your garden? Unless you're using manure, your fertilizer comes from OIL. If it comes from manure, who is going to keep your animals alive when they get sick? Now we're talking medicine again. Do you hunt? Who makes your bullets? If you reload, who makes your gunpowder?

Naw, the best we can hope for is to be MORE prepared than the other guy. And even that's difficult since we don't know what it is that we're preparing for. If the "END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT" takes the form of all out nuclear war, it's highly unlikely we'll survive no matter what we do. If it takes the form of tyranny, prepping starts with LEAVING THE COUNTRY, and I only know one person who's doing that [part time]. If it takes the form of economic collapse, the most important thing could be developing a skill that others will value... or it could be stockpiling enough food to keep you going until your garden can replace it... or it could be getting in good with your community... or ??? It all depends on what happens and how it unfolds.

I don't think anyone is really prepared to go it alone.
