He didn't address the issues I am concerned by.

The Americans weren't ever there for the Afghans. They were there for a selfish reason but a sensible one. To prevent terrorism. That seemed to be working and at a fairly low cost. Al Qaeda has almost disappeared. So the decision to change policy demands an explanation. Why have they decided to risk AQ recovering?

Why did he so misjudge the Afghan government and army?

And why did he fail to establish a perimeter around Kabul during the evacuation process?

Of course, there is the separate issue of the harm that will be borne by the Afghan people, but the primary responsibility for that is with their government.

President Biden defended his decision to withdraw U.S. troops from Afghanistan in remarks at the White House on Monday afternoon, blaming the Taliban’s takeover on the unwillingness of the Afghan army to fight the militant group and arguing that remaining in the country was not in the U.S. national interest.

“American troops cannot and should not be fighting in a war and dying in a war that Afghan forces are not willing to fight for themselves,” Biden said.
