Leaving for Sacramento in the morning

My wife and I picked up Joey and his roommate and brought them back to their old apartment so they could give it a final lookover. In the morning, we'll be packing up our things and leaving San Diego, stopping only for gas and to drop off the roommate's router and vacuum cleaner. He's been kind enough to leave them here for us this last week. (The new place has its own wireless internet.) We've returned the favor by cleaning the place.

After the apartment tour, the four of us went out to dinner - just a 10 minute walk. I can understand why Hillcrest might appeal to my son, given that he has no car and appreciates having things in walking distance. The new apartment has nothing in walking distance except the school, UCSD. I do mean nothing. No stores, no restaurants, no shops, no parks. He's in the middle of a very large industrial park.

Three of us had large Ramen soups, and my wife had a big combination rice bowl. Great food... great conversation. I'll miss the boy.

Did I mention the naked man sitting in the bus stop booth? Yeah, there was that too. I'd have taken a photo but my wife seemed to think it would be rude. My own thought was that the passers-by, most of whom seemed to be quite accepting of his personal choice not to wear trousers or underwear, would probably have assaulted me if I'd done something as uncouth as to photograph the naked man in the bus booth. So, no photo.

It's an interesting place, San Diego. Not quite as I remembered it.
