The "Divide" actually splits into a large basin , a bowl so to speak that has a large circumferential boundary east and west and north and south. Since you alla re headed EAST you found that boundary on the western side and as you continued east on Interstate 80 yu came across the eatern side of the Basin. The elevation does change and it is quite a large Basin on a map..
