Me and my medical issues...

I've been doing one of those 24 hour urine collection things. It started at 8:15 yesterday morning and will finish at that time today.

What I'm reading on-line says "The normal range for 24-hour urine volume is 800 to 2,000 milliliters per day." I filled the 3,000 milliliters container they gave me and just topped off a 2-liter soda bottle. That's 5,000 milliliters and I still have almost 3 hours to go. I figure I'm doing a race horse proud. It's been that way for a long time.

I've been complaining that I'm "too dry" for more than 20 years. This is the first time I've gotten someone to take the complaint seriously enough to do more than another "always negative" blood test. My current doctor thinks I could have something called "diabetes insipidus" (DI) which is rare (he's never diagnosed it) and unrelated to the two types of diabetes you're probably familiar with. It's not a blood sugar issue at all. It just means that either my hypothalamus is not properly regulating the kidneys or the kidneys are ignoring the orders. In either case, the kidneys purify the blood and then route water to the bladder when they should put most if it back into the body. That's the problem. Consequently, I'm always dehydrated and my blood is either depleted of things it needs or oversaturated with them. I have to deal with consequences like migraines, confusion, dizziness, inflammation in my extremities and only sleeping for 3-hours at a stretch. In other words, the same sort of crap you guys deal with. In 2019, I was hoping it was my heart that was doing all of this to me. No such luck...

The hypothalamus is the more common cause. If it's DA and the hypothalamus is responsible, then there's a med that can be taken nasally every six hours to do what the hypothalamus is supposed to be doing. Unfortunately, there is no cure and I'll have to take the med for the rest of my life. Still, if that's the extent of it, I'll be happy. It's far better to have something treatable than not. Worst is to remain undiagnosed and always wonder if doctors think I'm exaggerating or that the problem is in my head. It's not, doc, honest. It's in my bladder! Well... if it's the hypothalamus, I suppose the docs were right all along.
