I don't agree. Oh, for sure, they're mentally ill, but I don't see any reason to punish them for it. If you did, where would it end? Would paranoid people also lose their right to compete? Depressives? Schizoids? How about autistics, homosexuals and alcoholics? They're all mentally ill, but that's no reason to take sports away from them.

My goal, were I the decision maker, would be to ensure that their medical procedures did not grant them an advantage over unenhanced individuals. Therefore, trannies of either sort - either men who had been medically castrated or women who had been hormonally strengthened - should be allowed to compete against men, but not women, except for those few events where men and women already compete against one another. Or the trannies could compete against each other, assuming they could find someone willing to host, and an audience interested in seeing and paying for so grotesque a spectacle.

"So what’s the solution here?"

Treat "transgenderism" for what it is - a severe, debilitating psychosis that demands immediate medical treatment. And, since its sufferers are mentally unstable, they should not be allowed to compete in any sports - men's or women's - until their psychosis has been successfully treated. These people need help, not to have their illness aided and abetted.
