OK, we learned something new today. We’ve written a lot about DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) but we’d never heard of DEIBJ, which stands for “diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and justice” (how soon until we see DEIBJ+). The Skimm interviewed UC Berkeley’s new Vice Chancellor of Equity and Inclusion, Dania Matos, who describes the emotional toll of her $325,000 a year gig.

Christopher F. Rufo ~ Meet UC Berkeley's new Vice Chancellor of Equity & Inclusion. "[Her] identity is Latina, first born, raised by a single mom," and she deals with the "emotional toll" of doing DEI-BJ work and "dismantling systems of oppression" through "mindfulness breathing."

Salary: $325,000.

Christopher F. Rufo ~ As @FischerKing64 points out, this is significantly more than the average salary of a family physician. It's not cheap to provide DEI-BJ services to an entire university campus.

At the time of her interview, she’d only been at UC Berkeley for about a month, so her typical day consisted of “holding informal and formal listening sessions focused on truth-telling, trust, and transformation.”

The Skimm asked her about the hardest part of her job:

I am up against a lot of systems of power that are bigger than myself. It takes a little bit out of you. When you’re battling injustices, systemic oppression, racism, sexism – all those things – your heart breaks into a million pieces. I have to pick all those pieces up and put my heart back together every single time.

No wonder she rakes in the big bucks. Berkeley must be a hotbed of systemic oppression, racism, and sexism.

Richard Hanania ~ It’s like every letter they add creates another 10 six-figure jobs. It probably does.

Tom LaMarra ~ $325K to spout destructive political BS. New US cottage industry.

Alejandro MaJERKas ~ Sweet gig.

Pug Henry ~ More than the governor.

Lime Green Avocado ~ It’s not a $325,000 salary Chris, it’s a $325,000 emotional toll.

Heh heh heh heh heh.

The Magnificent Mongo Slade, BS, MPA ~ There's hundreds of these positions, juicing those students and Government funds dry.

But we need to forgive the debt over every student who racked up tens of thousands to get their gender and oppression studies degree at UC Berkeley.

D-Train ~ Perhaps the massive student loan problem has some root causes that can be addressed as opposed to the mindless "solution" of taxpayer-funded debt forgiveness.

Untitled ~ That's a whole lot of grift going on right there! 😂🤡

rob berg ~ She seems to have quite a few complaints about having to work hard to earn her $325,000. Seems like good pay for someone who is acting like a "victim."

Mariner5112 ~ So ... are you saying that the Vice Chancellor of Equity and Inclusion has a lot to gain if she continues to find the very things she's trying to get rid of?

A New Radical Centrism ~ The "emotional toll" of being a Latinxette and a PermaVictim™ with a six-figure salary in the grievance-industrial complex. One can only imagine.

Free Trading ~ So her job is to discriminate against Asians.

Unfortunately, THAT is probably all too true!

FurioTX ~ University positions are the holy grail for these useless humanoids, who are incapable of surviving in any true, real-life useful production-based role. The "Student Life" offices are the worst. It was like that when I was in school 30 years ago. It is worse - much worse - now.

SUlam ~ Add benefits and the generous 401(k) plan and it probably adds up to about $400K inclusive of both salary and benefits. She's clearly oppressed.

Your Name Here ~ Thankful for her and her sacrifice.

Philip Page ~ Have any white heterosexual males been selected for these positions?

According to The Skimm, Chief Diversity Officers are 68 percent female.

Ol Eagle ~ And we wonder why college tuition is so high. It seems the only job market that is growing in the US is the grievance industry.
