George S PAtton was a great General, a combat General.
His job was to lead an army, one of several. He was a great tactician and strategist..
Eisenhower had to plan the entire war and work with multiple nations and leaders and coordinate all those different armies and groups into a single team..
I'll take Ike.. Planner. Soft spoken. Talks softly and carried a BIG stick. He managed from afar and did not micro manage. He told Bradley who told PAtton what the objectives were and allowed PAtton to go get it done without intervening and butting in.. THAT is leadership behind the scenes.. Patton provided leadership out in front because that was his job.. And he did it very well.
No, I will take Eisenhower because of his abilities to work with others and influence others without getting testy and into open skirmishes. He was a politician when he was the Commanding General.
Patton was a excellent Army commander. He knew strategy and tactics better than most. He was right man for job of the Third Army.. Eisenhower was right man for the much bigger picture and overall command of several nation's forces..
Don't misunderstand please. These were two entirely different circumstances the two Generals had and BOTH were needed but only ONE can be the Conductor of the entire thing and itt akes some diplomacy and softgloves..
That to me is the difference... Your mileage may vary..
