Until now, it really hasn't been cold. We had one storm earlier that led me to do a little shoveling, but warm weather melted off what it dropped completely. Yesterday morning, we had ZERO snow. But at 11 a.m. another storm arrived, snowing for about 20 hours. It was supposed to give us 4" to 7"... still not much but enough that I might have pulled out the snowblower.

It didn't happen. When I checked this morning, we only had 3". I decided to shovel the deck and found that the 3" I'd seen was misleading. It was largely ice, coming up in sheets as I pushed the shovel. I hate ice.

The bottom line is that a lot of yesterday's storm must have been freezing rain, building up between layers of snow and making shoveling the driveway today surprisingly difficult. I more or less had to chisel my way up the driveway with the snow shovel, making a foot or so of progress with each attempt and ripping up a considerable amount of gravel as I went. Whadda pain.

The clouds are supposed to clear tonight causing temps to fall to 8°. Since that's the forecast for our town, some 900 feet below, the temperature here will probably be 5° at some point. That's about 10° lower than anything we've seen this season and is cold enough that I'm finally starting up the wood stove. The stove normally makes this small house too warm. Probably not tonight!

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months
