Now, about that phrase "attacking the messenger"...

A messenger is a person who relays something BUT WHO IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR IT. If someone brings a video of a doctor delivering a fraudulent speech, the person who brings the video is the messenger. The doctor is NOT the messenger. He's the source and he is fair game.

I think that needs to be clarified because I *do* believe in not attacking the messenger even though I've been accused of doing just that quite a bit this week. In every instance I remember, I wasn't attacking the messenger at all but the source. By my definition of the phrase, at least, I wasn't doing what I was accused of.

There is, however, an exception to what I've just written. That is when a person consistently or frequently delivers bad material. At some point, it starts looking as if the deliveryman is in league with the fraudsters and isn't so free of blame as first thought. That's worth remembering. At some point, even a messenger must be held accountable for not doing his due diligence on the message.
