You guys will be thrilled when you can occupy your new home. There is nothing quite like moving into a home that nobody else has lived in before and you got to watch and observe all the building of it from the ground up. I did that myself a very long time ago around 1977.

I'm still here... Yes sir, the cost of building today is quite different than in 1977. But we figured then like you did now that this was our forever home and we weren;t moving or relocating. I did a landscaping plan that looked out over 30 years into the future. I did not count on the neighbors stupid and stupider. They plant large trees like a Maple andan OAK right on the property line rain acorns and leaves on me every year.

I am having them both removed by a landscaper/tree service friend of mine at my expense this year.

You guys now have that same scenario where you can plan into the future with your new buildings and land.

Its a great position to be in and I would not want the expense you have and are incurring. Especially for heating and cooling..

At Ribs age and mine we have learned to be content and are more into things that can make everyday life and work easier and quicker. Like the riding tractors for example. I may start using the new Toro recycler power push mower I bought about a month ago to mulch a ton of leaves to cut grass in the front and side yard for the exercise AFTER the hip is r epaired and my right leg returns back to normal..

Unless of course the knee is ready for replacing which it could well be..

But you are fulfilling a great dream and will have liflong memories of this that are priceless to share with each other when you begin to see the sunset years..

Enjoy what you guys started and laugh a lot together. You should be very proud of what you have accomplished..

Re: “Congrats also on your beautiful home you guys sacrificed to acheive and build. That was really inspiring, at least to me, to watch and observe...”
Thanks! I wish that I could speak of it in the past like you did, as if it's already done. The house still has a long ways to go - including sheetrock, Siding, flooring, bathroom fixtures, kitchen cabinetry, heat (partially in), the deck enclosure, stairs, lighting, plumbing, external boiler, natural gas installation. The completion date keeps moving back. I don't think it will be in the Spring. Maybe in the Summer. Maybe in the Fall!

And then my builder returns to the barn - which still needs a lot of work.

If I were to do it over, I'd put a LOT more effort into finding a place already built and would buy that instead of the empty field I did buy. Yes, it's going to be wonderful and exactly what we want when it's done, but it's been very, very expensive and is taking a long time. I'd rather sacrifice some of the "it's our dream house" quality and get something that's functionally similar for perhaps half the price.
