Question: If Omicron is so “mild” how come hospitalizations are near the top reached anytime during the pandemic, 142000?

Because Omicron is far, far, far, far, FAR more contagious than earlier variants and some unscrupulous governors are repeating Cuomo's mistake of letting hospitals send contagious patients to long-term care facilities.

There are always going to be people at death's door who don't need much to push them through (or into the hospital). Omicron is mild compared to the original mutation but, still, it's sometimes bad.

Worth noting, too, is that there is an influenza circulating. The surge in hospitalizations may, to some extent, be being falsely attributed to Omicron.

Lastly, I question whether it's even true that hospitalizations are at record levels. I think the truth may be that one location's (Miami's) admissions are at record levels and your news source is twisting the truth for political reasons. I've read that hospitalizations due to Omicron tend to be brief compared to what earlier variants were doing. That would suggest that hospitals would be less likely to be overwhelmed. There are so many lies circulating these days that your entire premise may be false. I think we can all agree that you are usually wrong.
