Re: “...a local celebrity Louis Grizzard had the pig valve. He's dead now. It lasted a couple of years. Very good writer. Humorous.”
He wasn't the lucky sort. Pig valves have an expected life of 7 to 20 years.

I went the mechanical route because I could live 40 more years if I'm real lucky. I don't want another bout of chest surgery if I can help it - especially when I'm in my 70s. At that point the surgery might go perfectly and still not be survivable.

Speaking of NOT being the lucky sort, I noticed a small bump in my neck around 6 p.m. Twelve hours later, it's a pretty good sized bump, running from my right earlobe down toward my adam's apple. Swollen lymph node, I think. No pain, but it's growing fast and my ear feels a little funny. I'll probably have to call the doc and see if antibiotics are warranted. I'd really rather not have to go INSIDE. Not now. Omicron is rampant. My wife and I haven't been out of the house for a week, so it's not anything contagious. Ear infection, (Otitis), I bet.
