As I recall, something like 95% of the media outlets in the United States (or was it in the world?) are owned by just FIVE entities. Back in the 1980s, media outlets were owned by something closer to ONE HUNDRED independent entities. As you might guess, when news was coming from one hundred different entities, there was far more diversity... both in story selection and perspective... than there is today.

Given that newspapers and other media are not highly lucrative investments, one should be asking why all these media companies were gobbled up. I think it's pretty obvious: It was done because these FIVE wanted to control the news. Not for money, but for power.

Moreover, with just five companies controlling what people like you and I know about the world, it's easy for them to collaborate and conspire, effectively turning the "fourth branch of government" into something more akin to the Soviet Union's Pravda than something historically deemed essential to the healthy functioning of democracy. When they control the information, they control the people.

Well, that would be true too.

But in this case I was referring to the incestuous and disgusting relationships between cnn and various demoncrapper poloticians.
