Re: “the American who qualified for the finals just tested positive for Covid-19 and cannot compete.”
The American who was pulled is not high in the world rankings. He wasn't pulled from the finals, but from the Men's short-program. It's bad news, but not as bad as pulling someone who was likely to get a medal.

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months

What a joke these Olympics are.

In short track speed skating, Italy "owns" the sport. No one else is close. Its two best made it to the semifinals. The first raced in the semifinals and was disqualified. I didn't see what happened but the commentators were talking about it and how the decision had greatly helped China. But I saw the other semifinal, and two Hungarian (but half Chinese, and they'd trained in China) brothers took 1st and second place after the OTHER favored Italian was similarly disqualified. The commentators were shocked at the decision - they said that the penalty IS on the books but at other meets, it never gets called.

So that set up a final with three Chinese skaters and the two Hungarian brothers. I'm thinking, "Good grief! It's an all-Chinese final!"

Two Chinese skaters took the early lead. It was pretty clear that the second skater wasn't going to let the Hungarian get by. That was more important to him than winning. Halfway through the race, the Hungarian pulled off a beautiful inside pass of both. He went on to win. The commentators raved about how they loved the pass... calling it 'world class' since he'd done it so rapidly without touching anyone. I saw it. He didn't touch anyone. And you ARE allowed to touch. It just can't be extreme.

Sixty seconds later, the judges pulled the penalty card and handed the gold and silver to the two Chinese racers.

My wife told me a few minutes ago that in men's figure skating, the American who qualified for the finals just tested positive for Covid-19 and cannot compete. He isn't allowed to take a second test until after the final.

This is pretty suspicious, guys. In fact, it's blatant cheating.
