You might remember my mentioning having seen a bobcat last summer. It raced across the highway well ahead of us toward sunset, so we didn't see it well. It seemed huge though, and it's stubby little tail was clearly silhouetted.

I saw another one today, just a mile down my street. It wasn't huge, and it walked slowly across the road and into the snow. I slowed way down and it was still there, maybe ten feet off the road looking at me, again with one of those stubby little tails. (The photo to the left is NOT one that I took. But the cat looked like that.)

Now, I'm no expert. MAYBE it wasn't a bobcat. Are there ordinary cats that have that kind of tail? Would they be walking around at this time of year, going casually into the snowy forest? I doubt it. Around here, cats out in the open get eaten by bigger things.

But unlike the last bobcat, this one was small enough to be a regular cat. A very big one, but still a regular cat.
