If there's no fear of a criminal investigation, it will make it harder for Trump and his offspring to plead the 5th in depositions for the civil case being put together by NY Attorney General Letitia James. Pleading the 5th in a criminal case protects an individual from incriminating themselves, therefore jurors are NOT allowed to hold that against them during deliberations. However, in a civil case, taking the 5th can be interpreted as attempting to hide something and jurors are allowed to draw whatever conclusion they feel is appropriate based on what questions were or were not answered.

The consensus has always been that trying to get Trump into court for a criminal case would be almost impossible let alone convicting him. However, getting a civil judgement may have less roadblocks and in the end, it would have the potential for shutting down the Trump Organization, which the AG could do if she can demonstrate that Trump was operating a fraudulent business, just like what happened with the Trump University. This could lead to the total collapse of the Trump empire. And lets not forget that the criminal cases against the Trump Organization and its CFO, Allen Weisselberg, are still moving forward. Even if no one named Trump is held criminally responsible in these criminal cases, if there are guilty verdicts rendered, it will also undermine the financial viability of the Trump business ventures and will forever taint the 'Trump' name, which has always been his most valuable asset.
