The House of Representatives passed an overwhelmingly bi-partisan bill yesterday by a 424-8 margin to suspend normal trade relations with both Russia and Belarus over the war in Ukraine. The legislation gives president Biden the authority to increase tariffs on products coming from the two countries and requires the US Trade Representative to seek suspension of Russia's participation in the World Trade Organization.
In short, a no-brainer.
But there are republicans without a brain in the House of Representatives. These eight republicans voted for Russia and against America and Ukraine:
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia
Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida
Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado
Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky
Rep. Andy Biggs of Arizona
Rep. Dan Bishop of North Carolina
Rep. Glenn Grothman of Wisconsin
Rep. Chip Roy of Texas
Greene complained that "all we're hearing on the news is Ukraine" and Boebert said that Congress "keeps focusing on distractions abroad". Other republicans, like Madison Cawthorn of North Carolina, have called Ukraine's Zelenskyy a "thug".
So are they idiots, tools, fools or traitors?
