Today, the Oklahoma Senate approved six bills that essentially will ban all abortions in the state.
-- SB 1503 is a six-week abortion ban that would take effect immediately after the governor signs it into law;
-- SB 1553 bans abortion 30 days after a last menstrual period;
-- SB 1555 would allow pre-Roe v. Wade statutes to take effect if the Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade;
-- SJR 37 is a constitutional amendment that would eliminate any right to abortion in Oklahoma;
-- SJR 17 is a constitutional amendment that would confer full personhood from conception;
-- SB 1552 is a bill funding fake clinics that lie to people seeking abortion.
That makes Oklahoma the second state after Idaho to vote a six-week abortion ban modeled after Texas’s SB 8 out of a full chamber.
And why Oklahoma? Texas patients have fled to Oklahoma for abortion services after the state effectively banned abortion. Nearly half of all Texans who obtained an abortion out of state in the last six months traveled to Oklahoma.
